The cornerstone of the original church for Mount Zion AME was lai din 1861 thought he church has roots dating back to about 1849. IN 1993, the congregation had tier last service at theold church as their new building had been completed. the church is currently involved in a restoration project of thier old building to turn it into a museum.
The Mt. Zion AME church was founded in 1814. Construction of the current church building was begun in 1861, but progress was halted during the Civil War and the building was finally completed in 1866. In 1934, the church burned to the ground and was rebuilt later the sme year.
