City of Lancaster

The earliest settlers in the area were German immigrants, who arived about 1709. At that time, the area was known as Hickory Town. It became the county seat in 1729 when the county was erected. In 1742, the town became a borough and in 1924 became a Third Class City under the commonwealth.
