This burial ground had been established in 1682 on the west side of Edgmont Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets and was retained by the Hicksite brnach at the time of the Separation. After the two sides reunited and began worshipping together at the 24th Street meeting house that had been built by the Orthodox branch, the land for the burial ground was to be sold and the bodies transferred to Cumberland Cemetery. This, however, did not go through as planned and the land wasn't sold unitl 1959, at which point, the remains were moved to a number of different places, including Chester Rural cemetery.
Middleton Prep's cemetery lies behind the meetinghouse, surrounded by a fence. At the time I visited the cemetery, a few years ago, there was no way to access the yard as the gate was chained.
