Noted Mifflin County Family Hold Reunion on Historic Homestead

Lewistown, Pa., Jan. 20 - Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bratton and their interesting family of ten sons and daughters held a reunion recently at the old homestead in the southwestern corner of Bratton township. It was on this spot that Samuel Bratton, grandfather of the present owner, cleared away the virgin forest in the early part of the eighteenth century and made a home for himself.

Lewistown, Pa., Oct. 11 - The Bratton family held their first family reunion recently at the old original homestead, near Ryde Station, in Bratton township. Eighty-five of the old stock of Brattons were present, one hundred and three relatives by marriage, and fifty-six visitors, making in all 244 present.

Will Be Held at Ryde, Mifflin County, on Saturday

Our Juniata correspondent sends the following:

Last year the members of the Bratton family held a grand reunion in Mifflin county and the affair was such an unqualified success that it was decided to make it an annual event. The invitation for the second family reunion is:

"All persons who are in any way related to the Bratton tribe, are cordially invited to prepare a basket of provision and be present at the second reunion, to be held on the Charles Bratton homestead, near Ryde, Mifflin county, rain or shine, Saturday, September 14, 1907."

There will probably be present at this reunion several residents of Juniata: H. A. Bratton and wife, Logan Bratton and Mr. and Mrs. Will Thompson and family, all of 616 Third Avenue; also Joseph Bratton, wife and daughter, of Fourth avenue. Several other residents of the borough who are especially close friends of the Brattons may also attend.

Golden Wedding
Lewistown, Dec. 27. Mr. and Mrs. William C. Bratton celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here last night. They were married at Freeburg, Dec 26, 1867 by the Rev. James Lasher, the bride being Miss Sarah Houtz. Seven children, all boys, were born to the union and four of these survive.1

Killed on Crossing Near Lewistown

Lewistown, April 8 - William C. Bratton, 68 years old, a well known business man of Lewistown, was instantly killed last night at a grade crossing of the Pennsylvania Railroad, a mile from Lewistown. He was driving some stock to his farm and at the crossing got out of the wagon to drive the animals across the track, but stopped in the way of the passenger train and was instantly killed.

Bratton was known throughout Mifflin County for his activities on behalf of prohibition. He is survived by his widow and three sons as follows: W. Boyd Bratton, a contractor, of Lewistown; J. M. Bratton, a music dealer, Lewistown, and William Bratton, a civil engineer, New York City.1

Texas War Survivor

William Bratton, brother of John B. Bratton, of the Carlisle Volunteer, is one of the few survivors of the Texan war of 1836. He resides in Mifflin county.1
